Biblical sites in Jordan
Jordan is a very important part of the Holy Lands. Many of the places mentioned in the Old and New Testaments are in Jordan. Pilgrims from all over the world and from all denominations come to visit Jordan. Many world leaders have come in pilgrimage alongside the millions of faithful Christians, and Jordan is proud to have received four papal visits to date: Paul VI in 1964, John Paul II in 2000, Benedict XVI in 2009, and Pope Francis in 2014.
Jordan is known for its religious tolerance. Jordan is a country where Muslims and Christians lived side by side in harmony and Christian pilgrims are welcomed everywhere. The Royal Family and the Jordanian government work hard to maintaining the religious sites and to facilitate the visit of pilgrims from all over the world.
